Kim's note

The secret is patience: use less liquid than you think you need and scrape the blender down twice. A thick bowl holds its toppings; a thin one drowns them.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 frozen banana, sliced
  • 1/2 cup plain plant-based yogurt
  • 1/4 cup plant milk, plus more as needed
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)
  • Fresh berries, granola, sliced banana, and hemp seeds, to top

How to make it

  1. 1

Add the frozen berries, banana, yogurt, plant milk, chia seeds, and maple syrup (if using) to a high-speed blender.

  2. 2

Blend on low, scraping down the sides twice, until thick and scoopable — add plant milk a tablespoon at a time only if the blender truly stalls.

  3. 3

Divide the smoothie between two wide, shallow bowls.

  4. 4

Arrange the fresh berries, granola, banana slices, and hemp seeds over the top in neat rows — you eat with your eyes first.

  5. 5

Serve immediately, with a spoon that means it.
