Kim's note

Coconut water does the rehydrating, ginger calms the inflammation that makes you sore tomorrow, and pineapple's natural enzymes help with the rest. Blend the ginger with the liquid first so no fibrous bits survive — warm-up for the blender, cool-down for you.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric (optional)
  • 1 pinch black pepper (if using turmeric)
  • 4 to 5 ice cubes

How to make it

  1. 1

Add the coconut water, ginger, and hemp seeds to the blender and blend on high for 20 seconds until the ginger is completely broken down.

  2. 2

Add the frozen pineapple, frozen banana, lime juice, turmeric, and black pepper if using.

  3. 3

Blend on high for 45 to 60 seconds until smooth and vividly yellow.

  4. 4

Add the ice cubes and blend for 15 seconds more until frosty and pourable.

  5. 5

Pour into two tall glasses — one for now, one for the stretch that follows — and drink within an hour of your workout.
