Chocolate Recovery Smoothie
Cacao, banana, oats, and almond butter blended into a chocolatey muscle-repair shake — the treat that works as hard as your workout did.
Kim's note
The 30 to 45 minutes after a workout is when your muscles are most eager to restock — carbs to refill what you burned, protein to repair what you used. This shake delivers both in a glass that tastes like dessert. The pinch of salt isn't for flavor; you just sweated it out.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana, broken into chunks
- 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder (or unsweetened cocoa)
- 3 tablespoons almond butter
- 3 tablespoons rolled oats
- 1 cup unsweetened oat milk
- 1/2 cup plain plant-based yogurt
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup, or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 to 5 ice cubes
- 1 pinch flaky salt
How to make it
- 1
Add the oat milk and yogurt to the blender first.
- 2
Add the frozen banana, cacao powder, almond butter, oats, hemp seeds, maple syrup, vanilla, and the pinch of salt.
- 3
Blend on high for 45 to 60 seconds until completely smooth — the oats need a full minute to disappear into the drink.
- 4
Add the ice cubes and blend again for 15 seconds until thick and frosty.
- 5
Pour into a tall glass and drink within an hour of finishing your workout for the best recovery window.
